Cal just launched a dedicated safety fund 🎉

The new Cal Student Safety Fund is here!

The UC Berkeley administration has just launched (March 2024) a dedicated student safety fund, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

For over a year, our members have been asking for a way to give funds to the school that would be earmarked for safety initiatives like better lighting, initiating a discounted ridesharing program, building more blue light emergency phones, and more. And you may have even noticed that the establishment of such a fund has been one of SafeBears’ main goals on our homepage.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of ASUC Senator and Cal student Kailen Grottel-Brown, the Cal Student Safety Fund is now here. You can visit the fund here:

And there’s more good news: the new student safety fund is part of UC Berkeley’s annual Big Give campaign starting in mid-March:

This means the new safety fund will be seen by potentially hundreds, or even thousands of Cal families who want to make a financial contribution to the safety of students.

We encourage all SafeBears members to support this new safety fund, and to share the Big Give link on your social media profiles once the annual campaign kicks off in mid-March!
