FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can attend? This event is intended for parents, guardians and other adult supporters of UC Berkeley students. However, before 1o PM Cornerstone operates as a restaurant that welcomes children.
Is there a cover charge? No. Admission is free. However, please purchase a drink or two, as you would if you went out with friends to a cafe or bar.
Will there be food? Yes. SafeBears will provide light snacks. And Cornerstone’s full menu is available during or after our event.
Is this a parent orientation? No. This informal event is a chance for Cal parents to socialize and to celebrate their Bears. There will also be remarks by senior UC Berkeley administrators, representatives from the city and campus police departments, and SafeBears leadership.
Will this event be recorded or available to attend by Zoom? No, sorry. That is not possible given the event’s location (the front lounge of a restaurant/bar open to the public).
Is SafeBears affiliated with UC Berkeley? No. We are an independent, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded and led by Cal parents. Our mission is to make UC Berkeley safer for students.
What does SafeBears do? We meet monthly with the UC Berkeley administration to gather information and advocate for safety solutions. We keep parents informed via our Facebook group, email newsletters and occasional Zoom meetings. We sometimes advocate for safety measures before the Berkeley City Council or the UC Board of Regents. We sponsor safety programs: for example, we have funded free personal safety classes for students and a nighttime events grant program for student organizations.
Can I join SafeBears? All parents and other adult supporters of UC Berkeley students can support our mission! As an all-volunteer organization, we’re always looking for help with specific projects or tasks, the vast majority of which can be done remotely. We are also currently seeking a new board member.
