Night Safety Shuttles are back! 🚌

Night Safety Shuttles are back in service for Finals Week 2023!

Free for all Cal students, the night shuttles offer an easy way to get around.

Cal’s official Transportation page has not yet been updated, but we have confirmed with Assistant Vice Chancellor Seamus Wilmot that all 3 shuttles will be back in service starting Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Historically, Cal has had 3 night shuttles, but that changed with the Covid pandemic, when campus was largely shut down. Even after campus reopened, staffing shortages meant that only one night shuttle (the south loop) was running — until now.

In April 2023, SafeBears met with Vice Chancellor Wilmot and presented the following deck outlining several areas for improvement, including getting all 3 shuttles back in service and limiting ridership to Cal students. We’re pleased to report that not only are all 3 shuttles now running, but drivers will again be enforcing the requirement to show a Cal ID to board.

Here’s how to use the night shuttles.

North Side & South Side Shuttles

First, head over to Cal’s Night Safety page & download the NextBus or Transit app to your phone. (https://nightsafety.berkeley.edu/) These apps show realtime tracking so you can see where the North Side and South Side shuttles are from moment-to-moment.

The North and South Side shuttles drive in continuous loops between 7:30pm and 3am with the following stops:

(If you want to see a more detailed map with timetables, click here.)

Door-to-Door Shuttle

The Door-to-Door Shuttle operates between 3am and 6am, so if you missed the North or South Side Shuttles, you’re still covered. Like its name implies, the Door-to-Door Shuttle will be sent to your location and will drop you off where you need to go.

The Door-to-Door Shuttle covers a much larger area than the North and South Side Shuttles. You can request pickup anywhere inside the shaded area:

And you can request to be dropped off anywhere inside this even larger area:

Unlike the North and South Side Shuttles, the Door-to-Door Shuttle must be book ahead of time, and you should book at least 15 minutes before you need a pickup. Book it either by calling (510) 642-9255 or by clicking here:

BearWalk

Want another Cal student to join you when you walk to where you’re going at night? Request a BearWalk between dusk and 2:30am. They will meet you at your pickup location and escort you to where you’re going. Like all the safety services on this page, it’s 100% FREE.

Last call for BearWalk is at 2:30am, and you should make your request at least 15 minutes before you need your escort to arrive. You can request an escort either by calling (510) 642-9255 or via the button below.

Good luck on your final exams! 🐻
